Rolling Road - Delimiting and Power Runs - 10 June 2000
Having tried to some power runs last week 3 June '00 without much success due to the car being limited, this meant that we were not being able to reach 7500 rpm in 4th as we kept hitting the speed limited at 118 mph we had no chance of getting a clear reading of the true BHP. I decided to book the car back in the following week to have the car delimited and do some more power runs.
Having delimited the car, Dirk Hale of the (Powerstation ) ran the car on the rolling road to check the calibration of the speedo, well out 10 mph down as the screen shot to the left shows, this may have been me having changed the dial face back to the 180 km/hr face from the 110 mph face that was in the car when I got it.
So a the painstaking task of resetting it correctly was undertaken, he ran the rolling road at a fixed speed of 50 mph and placed the needle back on, ran it up to 60 mph rechecked and reset upto 70 mph and all looked good, so it was time to recheck the calibration. This time we were only a bit out but the best you will get with an analogue speedo.
During this time we check the top speed to make sure it was delimited, on the rolling road the computer clocked the car at 157.9 mph. (big grin from me).
Next was the Power run, this was another painstaking job due to the car being an automatic many runs were made in tiptonic mode and auto, but eventually he got it set right and the following output was gained.
Norm Power : 217.0 BHP
Engine output : 217.5 BHP
Wheel output : 124.0 BHP
Torque : 211 lbf/ft @ 90 mph
